HEY! How are you?
Welcome to your Youth Section, Y@ST.M
Look out for youth events in 2011
Tuesday Youth Group
Tuesday Youth Club – meets in the church centre from 8pm – 9.30pm. 11 – 18 year olds. Tuck shop, music, table tennis, table football, snooker, Wii games and activities.
So far this year our activities seem to be based on food! We are cooking flapjack, pancakes and fairy cakes. We have made Valentines cards and had a foil activity. Still to come are painting jewellery, designing T-shirts, painting pencil cases, making mothering Sunday day cards, painting mugs and decorating Easter eggs!. We will then have a deserved Easter break!
Volunteers needed Tuesdays 8 till 9.30am or at our Youth Café in the village hall on Thursday evenings. Names to Jackie c/o info@stmartinsdesford.org.uk
Thursday Youth Café
A Youth Café was launched on 10th February and will run on Thursdays from 7.30pm - 8.30 pm in the Village Hall, thanks to the generous support of the Parish Council.
The Youth Cafe has a different look and feel to the established Tuesday Youth Club with sessions being steered towards relaxed chat on a comfy sofa and bean bags. There is an opportunity to buy hot drinks and snacks, play on the air hockey table, small pool table and PS2 & Wii, chat and chill out with friends. Our vision is to provide access to laptops and Wi-Fi facilities subject to fundraising.

Urban Saints group
An Urban Saints group is now well established on a Sunday evening. Urban Saints is a Christian teaching group for young people running most Sunday's from 6.30-7.30pm in the Church Centre. The session is based around a weekly theme with a combination of fun activities (often involving chocolate!), discussion around a short bible passage, a reflective part to the session and short prayers.
The Urban Saints group is also embarking on the Re-Build South Africa programme in 2012 run by the Urban Saints Organisation. It involves groups of children aged 13-18 yrs undertaking to build a house for a homeless family in Soweto near Johannesburg. The project runs for 2 weeks and participants come from all over the UK and other international locations to join together in this construction project and to experience local styles of worship together.
Each participant is required to raise the sum of approximately 1,300 pounds to cover the cost of flights, transport, meals and accommodation. The young people wanting to participate in this programme will be fundraising in earnest to try and achieve their goal throughout 2011. This fund raising activity started on 5th March with the sale of cakes at a Charity Sale. Other fundraising events will be published as they occur. It is hoped that the community will support and encourage these young people in what is expected to be a life changing experience for them.
