March 2008
National situation
We are grateful to God that the elections took place as scheduled in a relatively calm atmosphere and that the results have been accepted by all parties. There is the challenge now of the formation of a new coalition government, the future role of President Musharraf and the issue of the reinstatement of the judges previously dismissed.
Tearfund Consultation
All the Tearfund partners were able to meet in Rattanabad and we had a good 6 days. The team from UK were great facilitators and we were able to come to an agreed framework for Tearfund’s future work in Pakistan. How this will emerge will become clearer in a few months.
Visit from DIL (Development in Literacy)
The Director of this large NGO and their manager in Karachi were able to visit our project during the 4th ITEP workshop. This was a good opportunity for us to present our training methodology and we have submitted a proposal at their request for providing training for their national monitoring teams.
Easter Programme March 14th
We again have the opportunity to bring village children to a day’s programme of drama, singing, artwork and sports so that they are able to learn about the life, death and resurrection of Jesus.
Easter Celebrations
The Christian community in Pakistan always has a full programme of worship with fasting during Lent. Our staff set up a prayer room and we have taken it in turns to use it during our lunch hour. There has been worship in people’s homes each day which means there is a greater sense of being together as a community that will culminate in our three hour service on Good Friday and Sunrise Service on Easter Day.
Diary and Prayer
- March 4th – 13th JJ in Murree for International School Board Meetings and teacher training for staff. I also hope to make some new contacts in Islamabad for future training opportunities.
- Easter Programme March 14th for Munaver and his team who will lead the day’s programme.
- Christians in Pakistan as they celebrate Easter in all the churches.
- Future government and peaceful transition to “democracy”.
Thank you for your prayers and support for our ministry.
