Beaufort Entertained Us
Friday night 18th June was a good, (well maybe not for those who stayed at home to watch England play not enthusiastically with a ball!). The Beaufort Entertainers had a “Miscellany concert”.
The evening was very varied, starting with a few “oldies” “ My boy lollipop”, Island in the Sun”, Brown girl in the ring”, Carl then read The Battle of Hastings by Marriott Edgar. Our own musicians led by Alison Mitchell performed with their usual expertise – it’s amazing how we have seen the young people grow from “just learning” to being very proficient in their abilities.
We had a refreshing drink and fruit sticks at the interval and then followed our panto “Pinocchio – done with our usual aplomb and absolutely no expense!, must admit we quite enjoy “performing” (hardly the word) these, great fun.
We also welcomed some of the Musical Village “Chorale” with their conductor Leisa Smaditch. Leisa joined us last year to sing with Steve Elliott and we were very pleased to see part of the “Chorale” with us on this occasion (thanks to Kevin Elliott for his efforts in bringing them). They sang: a varied programme with South African, Calypso, Macedonian and of course English music.
Alan sang a couple of tongue twisting G & S songs: “Major General song” and “The Policeman’s Song, with the chorus on this occasion sung by the lady pc’s
Another musical interlude and a reading and it was time to finish off with an “Abba” combination with the audience joining in.
We hope everyone enjoyed themselves, half the proceeds went towards our music expenses and £65 will go to the Access for All, phase 2 project.

A TALE OF TEN RECTORS
Some Desford Clergy 1209-2009 is a new publication by Caroline Wessel written to celebrate 800 years of clergy at St Martin's church, Desford.
These ten stories highlight the lives of specific Desford clergy through the ages, but also reflect the changing religious beliefs and practices of the time, and the way of life (and death) during the last eight centuries. Detailed accounts of the additions, alterations and restorations of the church fabric also explain how and why St Martin 's church is like it is today.
The Bishop of Leicester writes about the booklet, "This is local history at its very best – lively, detailed, colourful and engaging." With its "careful and rigorous research… the detail brings history to life for us and sets the very local in the context of much larger sweeps of history."
A Tale of Ten Rectors is available from St Martin's Church, from the back of the church, from the Church Centre or from the Rector for £4 (cheques drawn in favour of Desford P.C.C. ) or from Mrs C. Wessel, The Old Forge, 16 High Street, Desford,
LE9 9JF, at £4 a copy (£4.50 if posted) – cheques payable to C.M. Wessel.
All sale proceeds will go to the St Martin's Access for All Phase 2 project.
