Sing For Life
The Anthony Nolan Trust
Who are these people? – The Anthony Nolan Trust takes back lives from leukaemia by managing and recruiting new donors to the UK’s most successful bone marrow register.
What’s the point? – A bone marrow transplant is often the last hope of survival for the thousands of children and adults with leukaemia or similar life-threatening conditions.
What’s the need ? – Currently there are approximately 16,000 children and adults arund the world seeking a suitable bone marrow donor.
What did we do ? – On Thursday 25th March we held a sponsored ‘Sing for Life’ in church. Starting at 6pm we sang 50 hymns, each being chosen for a donation of £1 and ending about two hours and ten minutes later. We did this with the help of our choir, congregation, friends from other churches and two organists. At anyone time there were about thirty people taking part. It hardly felt like hard work, more like an enjoyable sing together. Thanks to sponsorship and donations we were able to send a cheque for £650.00 to the trust.
May I say a big ‘thank you’ to everyone who helped make this such a wonderful result. To the singers, players, refreshment providers, supporters and sponsors. Perhaps the best thing we have done is to give hope to someone in need.
Mary Collins.
